Teen Phone Break

While sometimes I wish my sixteen year old daughter majored in phone at school, I recommend simply taking the phone off the hook for 30 minutes or an hour sometime during the evening so family time isn't invaded by her 27 friends calling with nothing to say. I also put her pager under a pillow so it doesn't buzz and distract her.

Of course, inform everyone that this is happening so we can all "be alone with one another for a short time each night" after which calls are permitted. They'll grumble at first, but it'll be OK in a few days. this can also stop the telemarketing calls during dinner. We've done it, and it works. We talk more, listen and feel more like a family unit instead of unconnected individuals.
