Traveling With Young Children

Traveling With Young Children
Something that makes life a little easier when I'm flying with my child is to dress him in bright colored clothes while we're traveling. I would never lose sight of him, but dressing him this way helps me to spot him immediately. I always think ahead about what he will be wearing on the day we travel.
Occasionally he has trouble with air sickness, so I always travel with a change of clothes for him and a clean shirt for me too. We have it down to a routine now where he gets his own air sickness bag out and has it ready, so if it happens he is really pretty calm about it. Also, I try to bring snacks that are pretty bland because sweet foods seem to make matters worse.

We always travel with his travel blankie which can fold up tightly, but if it were to get lost it would not be the end of the world, because the most important blankie is still safe at home. We bring paperback books that he's never seen before so this helps keep him occupied. We don't bring the favorite items that if they got lost would be the end of the world, but we might bring a duplicate of an item.

We bring a deck of cards and we always have our travel journal which we add to, but also if we are delayed somewhere, it is fun to pull out the travel journal and read about old trips that we've taken which helps the time pass.
