Time Capsule For Kids

Time Capsule For Kids
We put a time capsule together for our daughter and kept it in the attic for four years and just a couple of months again she took it down and opened it (she's now 8 years old). The goal of the capsule was to help her understand the idea of "long-term" and for her to see herself in the future. We put things in the capsule like letters from her relatives, her favorite music, drawings and an audio tape.
She was very interested in remembering who and what she liked four years ago. She enjoyed reading the letters from her relatives. There was an interesting story in the letter from her grandparents describing what they enjoyed when they were her age, and this interested her a lot. Being her parents, we watch her grow every day, but this gave us a chance to appreciate how much she has developed over time. So this project was just as much for us as it was for her.

We are hoping to put another time capsule together for her soon that she will open when she's 16 years old. Also, another thing we have started doing, at the end of every school year we receive a sealed letter from her teacher (about my daughter and/or her school year) and we save those so that when she graduates from high school, we'll present her with all those letters from her past teachers.
