Healthy Homemade Foods and Smoothies

My son adores homemade fruit smoothies. He likes the texture and coldness of it and it is really easy to make with a little fruit and milk, blend...and it's done! The thing I really like about it is that you can add anything you want to it. Sometimes I add wheat germ or flaxseed oil or vitamins. You can also use organic milk and organic fruit. I often use a banana and this is a great way to get rid of ripe bananas.

I started feeding my baby solid foods between 6 and 7 months and I never gave him any commercial food, I always made my own. I would bake yams, peel out the insides, blend in a Cuisanart and squeeze it into ice cube trays and once it's frozen you have it for a couple of months.

You can do that with any vegetables. For rice cereal, I took the whole grain brown rice and put it in a coffee grinder that I only used for grinding grains and I cooked them and he loved it and it started him eating healthfully at a very early age. It doesn't take a lot of time and it is very economical.
