Review The Day's Events With Your Child

As an infant, our daughter never gave us any problems going to bed at night and she actually went down rather easily after her evening bath and a few hugs, kisses and her favorite angel bear. However, as she got older she began to fuss quite a bit about going to bed at night, even after her bath and reading her favorite book.

One of the things we found that really calms her down and that she likes, is to recap her entire day with her and talk about all the fun and interesting things she did that day. (We also talk about the people she saw and friends she played with during the day.) You can tell by the way she looks at you and listens to you that she remembers everything and loves hearing you describe her day.

Sometimes we talk about the activities of the next day and this gives her something to look forward to. Reminiscing about her day has become a very special and favorite "quality time" for us as well, because it allows us to relive her day from her perspective and to connect better with her as a toddler.
