Making Good Choices About Toys

To prevent young children from being overwhelmed by many toys, here's an idea of how to keep the number of toys children play with to a manageable number for both kids and parents.

We had what used to be a linen closet in our hallway and we put a couple of shelves in it and organized their toys inside. Each morning, each child could pick out 3 toys to play with that day. During the day they could exchange one toy for a fourth toy.

There were a couple of things that this idea helped with: first, it helped because their wasn't so much clutter and mess, and second, it was easier to pick up at the end of the day, and third, the children learned about making decisions.
