Organizing Toys

Organizing Toys

When my son was born we lived in a much smaller house than we have right now, and we had accumulated a lot of toys from relatives and friends, and I began to realize that we just didn't have room to have all the toys out at one time. So I started keeping a lot of his toys and books, etc. in the basement. Whenever I felt he was getting bored with the toys and books that he had been playing with, I would cycle them out by taking some toys to the basement and bringing up different ones.

We've moved into a bigger house now and my son is 3 years old, but I still continue this process because it helps to control the clutter. I noticed that when we had a lot of toys out, he would dig through them and only pick out a few that he would play with, so when I would cycle out the toys, he would rediscover the newer toys and found them interesting again. I would wait until he was asleep before I would take the toys downstairs and cycle them out so he wouldn't see and couldn't protest.

I think this makes him appreciate his toys more and not take them for granted.
